Acrylic painting on canvas 12”x12”

Hydrangeas grow happily here and I adore all the variation of color that can happen in a single stem of flowers. I was practicing getting the gesture of the blossoms in the fewest strokes. At the same time, I was reading an article written by Diane Wolkstein about a 4000-year-old cuneiform unearthed in Iraq during 19th century.
Diane worked with Sumerian scholars and wove the translations into the story of Inanna who travels to heaven, hell and back again for her hearts desire. I painted a window to feel like we can peer into the goddess Inanna as she stands on lions with owls on each side. The veil from earth to hell and heaven might be thinner than we know.
